On 30 November 2023, Daracon Group celebrated at the NAWIC NSW 2023 Awards for Excellence, at ICC Sydney, where five team members made the cut as finalists across the University Scholarship, Team Innovation, and Contribution to a Project's Development categories.
Hayley Sansom, a Trainee Engineer with Daracon’s Property Division, emerged as the winner in the University Scholarship category sponsored by John Holland. Hayley's pathway to a career in construction was not straightforward, but her dedication, exemplary skills, and commitment to academic excellence have now been recognized among her industry peers. This recognition includes a $4,000 scholarship to assist with further training and education.
“Hayley has a great story, having previously been a FIFO worker, she operated a directional drill and was a machine operator for a number of years before her first gig in Construction. Hayley got her start working as a Traffic Controller, successfully completing Open Foundation at the University of Newcastle. This gave her entry into a Bachelor of Construction Management, allowing her to work her way up into a Trainee Engineer position here at Daracon,” said Mark Craven Divisional Manager Hunter Property.
Jon Mingay, Managing Director of Daracon Group, expressed his pleasure at the news, stating, "This achievement is a testament to the exceptional talent and dedication of our team members. We are overjoyed to have our outstanding women recognized and celebrated as the best in the construction industry."
Mr. Mingay reiterated Daracon Group's commitment to promoting diversity and gender equality in the construction sector through its partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
"Our association with NAWIC reflects our commitment to advancing diversity and gender equality in the construction sector. We're honoured to align ourselves with NAWIC's vision of empowering women in our industry," he added.
