With the East Coast of Australia currently affected by devastating floods, Iluka received over 500mm of rainfall in the last 48 hours, isolating the township and threatening property.
Our Daracon team have been welcomed and embraced by the local community in the months they have been on site constructing the Birrigan Iluka Beach Subdivision for Stevens Group , so when the flood waters rose, they stepped up and sprang into action!
On Monday the team offered the local RFS their assistance, which the RFS gladly accepted requesting sandbags. The team got to work quickly filling and donating 1000 sandbags to the RFS before rounding up all the sandbags that they had left and filling them at the site compound to deliver to the local community who needed them.
On Tuesday morning the team again met up with the RFS and many of the locals near the levy bank to assist. With high tide approaching the RFS requested use of our 14T Komatsu Excavator to load sand from our site into 2T tippers along with an 8T tipper from Clarence Valley Council. All our employees helped out where they could filling and placing sandbags.
An amazing effort from the team in Iluka who took it upon themselves to assist the community and help anyway they could. This team are all working away from home and have immersed themselves in the community, not just there to do a job.
This truly reflects Daracon’s values and we commend them for their community service.
