Munibung Road Extension

Summary

Daracon were awarded the extension of Munibung Road between Cardiff Industrial Estate and Boolaroo. 

The extension reduced travel times and alleviate congestion on the alternative route which experiences significant queues at peak times through Argenton, Glendale and Cardiff. Completed works also help to facilitate the development of more than 800 new homes and 20 hectares of commercial land.

Scope of Works

• Earthworks totalling 30,000m3 of cut to fill;
• Construction of 818m of new road consisting of 285mm of heavy bound subbase and 165mm of asphalt overlay;
• Installation of site drainage including 1600m of RCP’s ranging from 375mm to 1200mm in size, 1600m of kerb and gutter and stormwater pits;
• Construction of 1400m2 of new shared path;
• Construction of site services including communication conduits and pits, street lighting, Ausgrid HV conduits and 300mm Hunter Water mains; and
• Landscaping including 4300m2 of new turf, 66 street trees and 850m of site fencing.

Achievements

• Completion of fill operations over existing site dam including dewatering through two-stage pump operation, desilting and foundation preparation for fill placement;
• Construction of tie-in works along Cardiff Industrial Estate, maintaining access to existing businesses and minimising impacts caused by construction works; and
• Implementation of environmental controls in accordance with the ‘Blue Book’ across a large site with a large surface area of exposed soil, ensuring no water discharge from site during project duration.
