Summary

In 2013 a petition was put to Gunnedah Shire Council for a new playground. The ‘Touched By Olivia’ Foundation was involved with the design to create an all-inclusive playground where children with disabilities can play side-by-side with children of all needs. Four years later the playground was given the green light to start.

Works commenced in August 2019 with the scope starting with the demolition of the existing playground and surrounding structures, 

Scope of Works

  • Minor earthworks and trimming;
  • Installation of new drainage across the site;
  • Installation of new water and electrical services;
  • Install of over 600m2 of concrete footpaths and slabs;
  • Install of concrete stairs, walls and handrails;
  • Install of new furniture items from bench seats, tables settings, bollards, water bubblers, BBQ’s, shelters, bin enclosures and bike stands
  • Installation of a Koala tree house with a giant slide and oversize recycling truck;
  • Installation of a 30m flying fox with a raised circular brick and tile sandpit accessible by wheelchairs, hollow log climber, tunnel, gumnut chair and musical tyre–drum on stand;
  • Installation of all accessible in-ground trampolines and multi swing set;
  • Supply and install of rubberised softfall and artificial turf throughout the playground;
  • Supply and install of soils, mulches, turf and plants; and
  • Supply and install of a fully automatic irrigation system and a 1.8m high palisade fence and gates surrounding the playground.

Achievements

Being able to achieve the completion of the project prior to the Christmas break with the park officially opening on 19th December 2019 ready for the school holidays.
