Bungarribee Park Stage 5A

Summary

Bungarribee Park is a 200 hectare park featuring wide-open scenic spaces, the Warrigal Dog Run and an exciting playground with climbing tower, slides, a flying fox, swings and water play equipment that Daracon Landscaping completed in 2017. The park stretches from Blacktown (M7) in the North to Liverpool in the South. 

Daracon Landscaping were awarded the contract to construct a pedestrian link between the Bungarribee Park and Blacktown Sports Park walking track.

Scope of Work

• Clearing, preparation and laying over 2,400m2 of concrete and decomposed granite walking/cycling tracks with the capacity to support the weight of maintenance/ rural fire service trucks connecting Stage 4 to the new bridge;
• Supply and install custom made single span 36m pedestrian bridge crossing Eastern Creek (light vehicle accessible);
• Supply and install custom precast concrete seating;
• Supply and install of cobblestone thresholds;
• Supply and install custom signage; and
• Planting of 1200 mature trees in grid lines.

Achievements

• Overcoming the poor ground conditions (depth of silt/unsuitable material);
• Construction and installation of a tree house, three storeys high with 11 internal levels for climbing with 3 stainless steel slides;
• Construction of an amentities building with rangers station clad with timber and tiles with a multi butterfly roof design;
• Building a suitable pad on the bank of Eastern Creek for 160t crane to install the bridge close enough to only require one set up for install;
• Due to the limited access and width of the site footprint (no go zones either side of the track) we were required to build the gravel subbase in and pour the concrete track out;
• Minimal disturbance with over 400mm of rain on site over the duration of the build with the project situated on the Eastern Creek flood plan; and
• Managing the construction of the project with limited access for heavy plant, equipment and material deliveries and weight restrictions over the sewer trunk main that runs through the middle of the project.
