Shaping Future Infrastructure Talent

News | Wednesday, 17th July 2024

Daracon Group is proud to announce its continued participation as an industry partner in the NSW Government Infrastructure Trainee Program. Highlighting a commitment shaping future infrastructure talent, Daracon's Senior HR Specialist – Compliance, Diversity and Inclusion Emma Morson recently presented at the "Future Pathways Conference," a professional development event designed exclusively for Infrastructure Trainee Program participants.

Since 2021, Daracon has welcomed 10 Infrastructure Trainees through the NSW Government Infrastructure Trainee Program, with five of them successfully transitioning to full-time employment within Daracon Group. The previous Infrastructure Trainees have transitioned into a variety of roles including, Civil Construction Labourer, Site Engineer, Payroll Officer, HSEQT Administrator, Junior Contract Administrator, and Training Compliance Officer.

Ms Morson shared her thoughts on why it’s important to partner with this NSW Government initiative, “The NSW Government Infrastructure Trainee Program helps contribute to the diverse mix of skills, genders and abilities in our workforce. We see this program as a great way to help support our talent pipeline, especially as by the time the program ends, the Trainees have gained diverse experience across the Construction and Government sectors.”

The two-year NSW Government Infrastructure Trainee Program offers school-leavers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the infrastructure sector by combining their TAFE studies with three rotations, spending eight months with a contactor, 8 months with a government organisation, and eight months with a consultant organisation.

Matisse Ward, Daracon Group Training & Development Specialist says “Trainees spend eight months with Daracon, engaging in a comprehensive rotation program designed to provide them with a well-rounded understanding of Daracon’s operations and an opportunity learn new skills aligned to their relevant qualifications and training outcomes. This program includes an initial one-week induction to familiarise trainees with the business, followed by rotations through various departments, divisions, and projects such as Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Training, Marketing and Communications, Bid and Tenders, HR, Planning, Plant and Maintenance, Civil Construction Operations, Survey, Procurement, and Contracting.”

"Our trainees bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm, and we are committed to providing them with the skills and experience they need to get started in their infrastructure careers," said a Ms Ward.

"Seeing the Trainees take on full time roles within our company at the completion of their studies, is a testament to their hard work over the course of their traineeship,” she said.

Daracon Group looks forward to continuing its partnership with the NSW Government Infrastructure Trainee Program and welcoming new trainees into the organisation.
