At Daracon Group, leaders from across the business are embracing the sentiment of this year’s National Safe Work Month theme: safety is everyone’s business. This theme underscores that a safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle right across all industries and occupations, while also reinforcing the business benefits that come from a commitment to safer workplaces. The theme emphasises the positive outcomes of good WHS risk management, highlighting individual, organisational and wider community benefits.
This year has been significant for Daracon Group team members, with leaders from various businesses and divisions within Daracon Group's operations successfully completing the Daracon Safety and Visible Leadership Program training. With the theme of fundamentals, Daracon engaged manual handling training provided by The On Site Coach which instils positive behaviours and basic principles when performing manual handling tasks.
The foundation of the Daracon Safety and Visible Leadership Program lies in Behavioural Based Safety (BBS), which aims to empower team members and leaders to cultivate trust and cooperation by understanding the drivers, motivations, and factors contributing to safe and healthy work practices.
BBS involves systematically observing and analysing employee behaviours, identifying positive and/or at-risk practices, re-enforcing positive behaviours and implementing interventions with direct worker involvement to encourage safer actions.
Ben May, WHS Manager at Daracon Group stated, "This proactive approach emphasises positive reinforcement, employee engagement, and fosters behaviours where individuals take personal responsibility for their actions and own opportunities for continuous improvement. We are actively addressing root causes of at-risk behaviours by ensuring a supportive environment from our Leaders with an aim to reduce incidents, enhance overall safety & worker performance whilst promoting a culture of shared responsibility for workplace safety."
"As we reflect on the 2024 Safe Work Month theme safety is everyone’s business, we are proud to have embedded BBS practices into our team’s daily routines. Our Leaders are ready to continue engaging regularly with the workforce so that timely, specific, and positive feedback is provided as part of Daracon Group’s continuous improvement journey," added Mr. May.
