Project Summary:
The WUC are part of a multi-stage freight route upgrade of the roads connecting Yarrie Lake Road with Pilliga Road via Prices Lane, Sandy Hook Lane and Womera Creek Road. The current road is a typical rural gravel road construction with approximately 7m formation with a thin gravel pavement and expansive clay subgrade. Each stage of the project will upgrade the existing gravel road to a 9m wide lime stabilised formation and crushed rock pavement with a 7m wide seal.
Project Scope:
● Part of a multi-stage upgrade to improve freight routes connecting Yarrie Lake Road and Pilliga Road.
● Upgrading the existing 7m wide rural gravel road with expansive clay subgrade.
● The road will be upgraded to a 9m wide lime-stabilised formation with a crushed rock pavement.
● The final surface will feature a 9m wide sealed road, pavement line marking to support improved freight movement and durability.
● Revegetation to include topsoil and Hydroseed.
Key Challenges:
● Traffic Management in closing the road and directing traffic to alternate routes during construction.
● Constructing new culverts and drainage structures while maintaining existing water flow and preventing flooding.
● Coordinating the construction of pavements and sealing works.
Key Success Factors:
● Maintaining clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including the Principal, subcontractors, and the community.
● Adherence to high standards in demolition, earthworks, subgrade stabilisation, drainage, and pavement construction.
● Ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow throughout the project duration.
● Meeting project deadlines within the 24-week contract period.
