Rail Bridge Replacement

Project Summary:

Daracon delivered upgrades at an overflow bridge, located on a busy coal line in the New England region of NSW. The site had experienced increased wear due to heavy coal train movements transitioning from a steep descent onto the structure.

This project focused on improving the durability and performance of the asset while supporting the safe and reliable movement of freight along this key rail corridor.

Project Scope:

• Manufacture and supply of precast components and fixings.
• Embankment widening and surrounding civil works.
• Install reinforcement and formwork for abutments and piers.
• Preparation for placement of cast in-situ concrete encasing for existing nine piers.
• Preparation for placement of cast in-situ concrete facing for abutments and wingwalls.
• Civil works to facilitate demolition works, including track and bridge ends formation reconditioning.
• Track restoration including ballast, tamping and rail welding to existing rail level.
• Removal of the existing steel girders and replacement with precast girders and headstocks.
• Installation of transition slabs and bridge ends track formation reconditioning at each abutment.
• Complete installation of steel walkway and handrails.
• Minor channel shaping and scour protection.
• Removal of spoil and redundant infrastructure.

• Restoring track and certifying fit and suitable for rail traffic at the agreed TSR.
