Project Summary:
City of Newcastle engaged Daracon to undertake the Bathers Way, South Newcastle project, spanning from Shortland Esplanade to King Edward Park. Formerly the site of the skatepark, this area is being transformed into a dynamic community hub for both locals and visitors. Alongside revitalising the space, we’re enhancing the pedestrian and cycle path infrastructure.
Project Scope:
● Site clean up and investigation to determine scope.
● Complete Skate Park construction including all associated infrastructure.
● Install Rock Catch Fence.
● Construct Bathers Way footpath (concrete works) and sea wall.
● Create rain garden and install balustrades (stainless and timber).
● Install hardwood seating, street furniture, softfall, and gym equipment.
● Finish framing, sheeting, tiling, and fit off of amenities buildings.
● Install tactiles, stair nosings, and polish existing concrete surfaces.
● Complete car park including subsoils, kerb, base course, and AC.
Key Challenges:
● Only one entry point available.
● Single pathway for entry and exit, requiring precise sequencing of works.
● Handling a multitude of design queries, with approximately 134 RFIs remaining with three months left.
● Conducting thorough investigations into past work and collaboratively devising solutions with the client.
● Managing up to 20 subcontractors concurrently.
● Operating in close proximity to Newcastle Beach, necessitating rigorous environmental management practices.
