Summary
The AGL Void 5 Project included the construction of multiple earthen dam walls comprising 130,000m3 of selected fill material. These earthen dam walls were constructed at the Ravensworth Void 5 North and South Arm Locations. This allowed for the continued depositing of fly ash in the void 5 location.
- Below is a summary of constructed walls and respective volumes completed as part of this project;
- Construction of 1B Bund Wall (16,000m3);
- Construction of 5N Bund Wall (18,000m3);
- Construction of Seal Wall between Bunds 1B and 5N (37,000m3);
- Construction of North Arm Bund 4L (45,000m3); and
- Construction of North Arm Seal Wall (15,000m3).
Scope of work
The AGL Void 5 Project scope included:
- Site mobilisation, inductions, preliminaries and planning;
- Establishment of access tracks and construction ramps;
- Clearing and establishment of works area;
- Excavation of “key” in deposited ash material;
- Construction of bridging layers over deposited ash material;
- Construction of multiple dam walls in accordance with specifications;
- Winning, sorting material from the allocated borrow pit, ensuring it conforms to material requirements;
- Placement, conditioning, compaction and trimming of earthworks;
- Environmental management; and
- All supervision and construction management.
Achievements
- Managing operational challenges of working in old mine work
- areas and over deposited fly ash material;
- Working within limited operational working area using a large fleet of civil earthmoving equipment;
- Wining and sorting suitable fill material to meet dam wall specification requirements; and
- Environmental management of operational fleet over large area.
