Trio of Daracon Projects Celebrated at 2025 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards

Daracon Group is proud to share that three recent projects have received finalist nods in the prestigious 2025 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards. These nominations highlight Daracon Group’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality civil infrastructure across the Hunter, Sydney, and North West NSW regions.

Michael Rummery, Hunter Civil Divisional Manager at Daracon Group, expressed his pride in the team's achievements. “Being part of these transformative projects has been incredibly rewarding. They not only improve infrastructure but also strengthen community ties and support local economies,” said Mr Rummery.

“We extend our congratulations to City of Newcastle, Upper Hunter Shire Council, and Narrabri Shire Council for their dedication and vision to improve their LGA’s.”

Bathers Way | South Newcastle Beach - City of Newcastle 

Daracon Group’s team was entrusted with completing the Bathers Way, South Newcastle revitalisation project. Daracon Group successfully delivered the project, which included the construction of a widened shared path, inclusive skate park with viewing area, new amenities blocks, restored stone arches and picnic area, bleacher and seating areas, landscaping, new kiosk and exercise stations. This transformation has turned South Newcastle Beach into a vibrant hub for community activity. The South Newcastle Beach Skate Park was recently named as the first place outside of North America to host the Jackalope Block Party.

Scone CBD Revitalisation – Upper Hunter Shire Council 

The Scone CBD Revitalisation project, which commenced in March 2023, involved resurfacing roads, widening footpaths, upgrading lighting and extensive landscaping for client Upper Hunter Shire Council. Daracon Group worked diligently to minimise disruptions to local businesses and residents, as these works transformed Scone’s main street and the surrounding streetscapes.

This was also underpinned by Daracon’s belief that their work shapes communities, which is why they proudly sponsored the Scone Horse Festival in 2023, 2024, and 2025, reinforcing their commitment to the region and LGA partners. The Scone CBD Revitalisation was the final piece of the puzzle for the local community, as Daracon also delivered the Scone Bypass in 2020 and Scone Airport Airside Infrastructure in 2021.

East-West Freight Route | Pilliga to Wee Waa – Narrabri Shire Council

This critical road upgrade from Pilliga to Wee Waa in Narrabri Shire involved reconstructing major floodways and large sections of road pavement over a 20-kilometre stretch. The project was crucial in enhancing the East-West transport link, facilitating improved freight movement between Narrabri Shire and key ports including the Port of Newcastle, Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour), Port Botany and Port Kembla. This project was also funded from all three levels of government, making a difference to regional residents, who utilise the road to access important facilities such as schools, hospitals and other medical services in Wee Waa.  

“We proudly work hard with Local Councils by partnering to deliver key civil infrastructure projects, and these three finalist projects show the diversity of how we are helping to shape the future of LGA’s across NSW,” Rummery said.
