Daracon’s Katie O’Hara Named Finalist in Hunter Safety Awards

Daracon’s very own Katie O’Hara has received a finalist nod in the 2026 Hunter Safety Awards, recognised in the Rising Star category for her outstanding contribution to workplace health and safety across the business.

Held annually, the Hunter Safety Awards recognises individuals and organisations within the Hunter region who demonstrate best-practice and innovative approaches to workplace health and safety.  

Katie’s nomination is a testament to the impact that she has within the business, demonstrating a strong capability to influence positive safety outcomes in complex, high-risk environments.

She first began her career as a Rail Protection Officer, and has since transitioned into a WHS Coordinator Role, where she has contributed to a range of major civil construction projects, including the East End Development, Hinton Levee Bank Stabilisation and new asphalt plant operations.

Through her contributions to these projects, Katie has delivered tangible improvements, including more consistent WHS documentation and risk assessments, as well as stronger worker engagement in safety observations, with increased participation and more timely hazard reporting.

She has also contributed to more effective organisational learning through her involvement in ICAM investigations, leading to practical corrective actions and improved knowledge sharing across projects.

“In a short time, Katie has gone from learning the fundamentals to having a real influence on safety outcomes across site,” said Ben May, WHS Manager at Daracon Group.

“Katie consistently demonstrates proactive leadership, strong communication, and a growing depth of operational WHS capability, and this recognition is incredibly well deserved,” he said.

Winners of the 2026 Hunter Safety Awards will be announced at a gala event on Friday, 8 May at The NEX, Newcastle.
