Daracon Operators Set To Shine At CAT Global Operator Challenge NSW Final

News | Wednesday, 26th March 2025

Daracon Group is proud to announce that two of its standout Plant Operators, Tim Lamb and Brett McKenzie, have secured spots in the CAT Global Operator Challenge NSW final this Friday, following impressive performances in the New South Wales Heats alongside their colleagues.

The highly competitive heat events, held from March 17-21, 2025, at WesTrac’s Tomago Dig Pit, brought together some of the most skilled Operators in the industry from across NSW. Tim and Brett’s expertise in handling advanced machinery and their exceptional precision and efficiency in a range of challenges earned them a place among the top 10 contenders.

Brett McKenzie, Daracon Finalist said “I’ve been an Operator for 30 years and have worked on a range of machines, but one of my favourites is the CAT Skid Steer Loader.”

Both Operators demonstrated their abilities in challenging tasks such as the Big Dig, where they excavated trenches with 2D technology, the Load & Go, a test of their loading and payload targeting skills, and the Stay on Track, where Operators showcased balance and material control skills. Both Tim and Brett’s performance in these events were crucial in securing their positions in the NSW Final.

Daracon Finalist Tim Lamb reflected on his preparation to get to this point, saying “I’ve been practicing my skills on the weekend, not just for accuracy but also for speed. I can’t wait to hit the dig pit this week!”

Cory Hay, Daracon’s Divisional Manager for Plant & Transport, shared his pride in their achievements, saying, “Tim and Brett have consistently shown exceptional skill and commitment on the job, and it's fantastic to see their hard work being recognised on such a prestigious stage. Their success reflects the high standards of professionalism and expertise that Daracon is known for.”

The state finals, set for March 28, 2025, will see the best operators from across New South Wales compete for the coveted spot in the Asia Pacific Regional Final in Japan later this year.
