Daracon Group has reaffirmed its ongoing support for Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT, following the cancellation of the 2026 Variety NSW Bash.
Variety NSW/ACT made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 NSW Bash, which was scheduled to run in May, due to skyrocketing fuel prices and fuel scarcity which made the event untenable at this time.
Variety NSW/ACT CEO, Tony Warner, said while the NSW Bash will not proceed this year, the need for support for children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability has not diminished.
“The absence of the Bash will leave Variety NSW/ACT with a fundraising loss of over $1 million – crucial funds used to fund grants, scholarships, programs and experiences for children and families who are doing it tough,” he said.
“We are calling on all Australians to trade their steering wheels for sneakers by registering for our Move In May Challenge – a chance for everyone to get involved, get moving and help raise these much-needed funds to support children who need it most.”
In lieu of the 2026 Bash, Daracon will continue its workplace giving contributions to Variety NSW/ACT and also held an internal bake sale fundraising event, which raised an additional $1,170 for Variety.
These initiatives reflect Daracon’s ongoing dedication to making a positive difference in the communities where it operates, even when circumstances change.
“Our partnership with Variety is about more than a single event,” said Adam Kelly, Daracon Group Business Development Director.
“It’s about ongoing support and ensuring we continue to back the incredible work Variety does for children and families when it’s needed most,” he said
Daracon has been a proud long‑term supporter of Variety for over 25 years, and that commitment remains unchanged.
Daracon is already looking ahead to the return of the Variety NSW Bash in 2027.
Through years of participation and fundraising, Daracon is on track to reach a significant milestone - $2 million raised for Variety when the Bash returns. This achievement reflects the passion, generosity and community spirit of Daracon’s people and partners over many years.
“Challenges like these remind us why partnerships matter. We’re proud to stand alongside Variety now and into the future,” said Adam.
Variety is encouraging the general public and supporters across NSW and the ACT to get involved in its Move in May challenge. Whether it’s walking, running, swimming, rolling or cycling, every kilometre covered helps replace the funds usually raised by the colourful Bash convoy. Find out more: www.moveinmay.org.au
