Daracon Group’s Career Starter Program Returns for 2025

Daracon Group’s Career Starter program has returned for its third year, continuing its mission to inspire and educate students about careers in civil construction.  

The program first launched in November 2023 in partnership with the Hunter Academy of STEM Excellence, which collaborates with local primary and secondary schools including Rutherford Technology High School and Maitland Grossmann High School. The initiative aims to carve out pathways into the industry for curious and engaged students who are interested in future traineeships and apprenticeships.  

The success of the pilot program was followed by a refreshed 2024 edition focusing on hands-on learning and industry exposure, and now in 2025 the program continues to grow.  

Earlier this month, more than 30 students from Rutherford Technology High School and Maitland Grossmann High School joined the 2025 Career Starter Excursion Day. The immersive experience was designed to provide the Year 11 and 12 students a clear and practical understanding of what a career in civil construction can look like. The day featured a Q&A session with experienced Daracon staff, a tour of the Beresfield head office, lunch on site, and a visit to one of Daracon’s active Hunter Property project sites.  

Now, 12 students have taken the next step in the program by undertaking two weeks of firsthand work experience across Daracon sites. The students had the opportunity to gain experience across key Daracon services such as concreting, pipe laying, landscaping and labouring.  

Daracon’s Head of People and Culture, Adele Stewart, said, “It is incredibly rewarding to see the Career Starter program continue to introduce the next generation to the industry. The range of opportunities in civil construction is broad and varied, so programs like this are important in giving young people the chance to explore the various sectors firsthand.” 

“By spending time with our team and visiting active worksites, students begin to understand how their interests and strengths could align with a future in construction, we want to show them that no matter where their interests and skills lie there’s a place for them in our industry.”
