What We Have Achieved

East Maitland Drainage and Signalling

March 2015 - October 2015

Client Information

ARTC

  • Duration: March 2015 - October 2015
  • Value: $4M
  • Location: East Maitland

Scope of Work

  • Drainage and Resignalling work through East Maitland
  • Drainage work comprised open and subsurface cess drainage on the Up and Down Corridors plus from High St Road Bridge to East Maitland Station
  • Slope stabilisation of cuttings near High St
  • Access improvements into the corridor
  • New signalling route including commissioning from Victoria St Station to East Maitland Station. Signalling route covered both ARTC corridor and public space.
  • Due to the limited access and information available at the design phase much of the drainage was redesigned by Daracon in consultation with ARTC during the works to ensure the design intent was achieved

Significant Achievements

  • Worksite was heavily constrained by surrounding users and limited corridor space
  • Signalling change over required the booking out of all tracks. This was commenced within a 4 track possession period, however additional time was planned to be required to complete this scope. High level safeworking controls were implemented and liaison with ARTC operations ensured that the works were completed without impact to the network
  • Track reconditioning of the Up Coal with significant unsuitable resulted in an excavation depths of ~2.5m BTOR with live traffic on the adjacent line
  • Due to the presence of rock in the Down Cess and restricted access, subsoil works were completed over a number of possessions. Possessions were both network wide and also night possessions associated with other ARTC activities through the area. This required detailed planning and liaison with various stake holders
  • Works completed on time despite the many challenges of the project
